The Rulings of Deen

Lesson 01 : Come towards Salah

Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ has stated: The people of Hell (i.e. Hell-dwellers/the disbelievers) and the people of Paradise (i.e. Paradise-dwellers /the believers) are not equal; only the Paradise-dwellers are successful. [Kanz-ul-Irfan (translation of Quran)] (Part 28, Surah Al-Hashr, Verse 20) 2. Why did Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ create mankind? Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ has stated: And I have created Jinn and human beings, only; that they should worship Me. [Kanz-ul-Irfan (translation of Quran)] (Part 27, Surah Al-Zariyaat, Verse 56) 3. What do the righteous get? Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ has stated: Allah’s has promised the believers and the performers of good deeds; forgiveness and great reward. [Kanz-ul-Irfan (translation of Quran)] (Part 6, Surah Al-Maa’idah, Verse 9) Our Last Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated: First of all the thing about which a person will be called to account on the Day of Judgement is Salah. If this is perfect, other deeds will be good as well. (Mu’jam-ul-Awsat, vol. 1, p. 504, Hadith 1859) Come towards Salah Our Last Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated: The key to Jannah is Salah, and the key to Salah is cleanliness. (Musnad Ahmad, Musnad Jabir Bin Abdullah, vol. 5, p. 103, Hadith 14668) There are some prerequisites for Salah, including Wudu.

Lesson 02 : Method of Wudu

Important fact: It is necessary to perform Wudu before every Salah. 1. Rinse the mouth three times. 2. Sniff water three times up to the soft part of the nose. (Make sure that water does not reach the brain.) 3. Wash the entire face three times. 4. Wash both arms up to and including the elbows three times. 5. Wet the hands with fresh water and wipe the entire head before touching the other parts of the body. 6. Wash the feet thoroughly up to and including the ankles three times. Remember, this is your first Wudu. We have skipped some acts for convenience sake. You can find the details in the book of Salah. Remember too, there are some necessary acts to be performed in Wudu, for Wudu is not complete without performing them. Some acts invalidate Wudu – for example, urinating, passing wind, bleeding, etc. You can find more details regarding these acts in the book of Salah. Answer the questions: Question: Explain the complete method of Wudu.

Lesson 3: Five times of Salah in a day

There are five times of Salah in a day: 1. Fajr (before sunrise) 2. Zuhr (during midday) 3. Asr (the late part of the afternoon) 4. Maghrib (after sunset) 5. Isha (at night) Note: You can check the time of Salah from the Salah calendar. You can also check the website of Dawat-e-Islami and the prayers app for the time of Salah. Details of five times of Salah There are different types of Rak’at in each Salah. For example, some are Fard, some Wajib and others are Sunnahs. The details are as follows: 1 Fajr 2 Sunnah and 2 Fard 2 Zuhr 4 Sunnah, 4 Fard and 2 Sunnah 3 Asr 4 Fard 4 Maghrib 3 Fard and 2 Sunnah 5 Isha 4 Fard, 2 Sunnah and 3 Witr Note: Other than the Rak’ats mentioned above, there are also some Nawafil in Salah. You will read the details about them in the book of Salah. You must complete the following steps before performing Salah: 1. Be in the state of Wudu and Ghusl. Body and clothes should be pure. 2. The body should be properly covered. (Little girls should wear a shawl properly and then offer Salah.) 3. Face towards the Qiblah i.e. Ka’bah Shareef. 4. The time for the specific Salah has arrived. 5. There should be a firm intention of offering the specific Salah. Dear children! The details are in the book of Salah. Answer the questions: Question 1: How many times of Salah are there in a day? What are their names? Question 2: What points must you ensure before Salah?

Lesson 4: What to recite in Salah?

Dear children! When children have turned seven years old, they should go with their father to the Masjid and offer Salah behind the Imam. However, they will not offer Salah in the row of men, but instead all children will offer Salah in the back row. Remember, when we enter the Masjid, we should not run, laugh, shout and even talk. We should not get into any mischief in Salah. If you want to recite the Noble Quran, and Durood Shareef, etc. keep the voice very low so that it does not disturb people. Dear children! Little girls can offer Salah at home. They do not need to pray Salah behind the Imam. Dear children! There are two formations in Salah: 1. What do we have to recite in Salah? 2. How do we have to offer Salah? What do we have to recite in Salah? Although there is a lot to recite in Salah, it is necessary to recite the following five things. Dear children! Memorize it first. 1. Takbeer i.e. اَللہُ اَکْبَر (It is necessary to utter it at the time of starting Salah, it is also necessary to utter it during Salah.) 2. Surah Fatihah (It is the first Surah of the Holy Quran which is in the beginning of the Holy Quran.) Surah

3. It is necessary to recite something after Surah Fatihah. (It has an explanation.) For instance, we will recite the following Surah (which is at the end of the Noble Quran).

4. Attahiyyat means that we should recite this supplication after every two Rak’at. (In the following pages, you will learn the definition of Rak’at.)

5. We should utter ‘اَلسَّلَامُ’ at the time of completing Salah. (We will utter ‘اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْکُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اَللّٰہُ ہ’ in full.) Note: We have to recite the Holy Quran and invoke the Arabic supplications correctly. We can learn from a Qaari or a good teacher. (We can also learn from https://www.quranteacher.net/madrasatulmadinahonline) Answer the questions: Question 1: Where will boys and girls offer Salah? Question 2: What should we memorize before offering Salah?

Dear children! It is important to perform some acts in Salah, for Salah will not be valid without performing them. There are some acts (like talking to someone, eating, drinking, etc.) that will invalidate the Salah if we take part in them while praying. Similarly, there are some acts of Salah that if we miss intentionally, we will have to repeat the Salah. For example, in Ruku, after standing straight after the Ruku, in Sajdah, or while sitting between the Sujoods, we should wait for the time equivalent to one سُبْحٰنَ اللہِ being uttered. Remember, you have to utter only whatever is mentioned earlier. Similarly, there are some acts (like playing with your body or clothes) that if we perform in Salah, we will have to repeat the Salah. You will find the details in the book of Salah. Answer the question: Question: Explain the complete method of two Rak’at Salah?

Lesson 06:What if the Salah consists of more than two Rak’at?

You have been informed about Salah performed in a day which includes two, three and four Rak’ats. The method of two Rak’at Salah was explained earlier. We are now explaining the method of four Rak’at Salah. Method of offering four Rak’at Fard Salah 1-15. Follow the procedure for praying two Rak’at Salah from point 1 to 15. However, when performing four Rak’at Salah, do not utter Salam as you did in the two Rak’at Salah but recite until Attahiyyat. (Recite the complete Attahiyyat but do not recite Durood Shareef and Du’a.) 16. While uttering ‘اللّٰہُ اَکْبَر’ return to the standing position. 17. Perform the third and the fourth Rak’at as you did in the previous two Rak’at. (Recite Surah Fatihah and a small Surah in every Rak’at.) Perform Ruku and Sujood. 18. In the fourth Rak’at, sit as you did in the second Rak’at. 19. Recite the complete Attahiyyat, Durood Pak and Du’a. 20. Now turn your head to the right and recite ‘اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْکُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰ ہ’ 21. Then turn your head to the left and recite ‘اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْکُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰ ہ’ Three Rak’at Salah You have been informed about Salah performed in a day which includes two types of three Rak’at Salah: (1) Salah of Maghrib (2) Witr (that is performed after the Fard and Sunnah Salah of Isha) Method of offering three Rak’at Fard Salah of Maghrib 1-15. Follow the procedure for praying two Rak’at Salah from point 1 to 15. However, in three Rak’at Salah, do not perform Salam as you did in the two Rak’at Salah but recite until Attahiyyat. (Recite the complete Attahiyyat but do not recite Durood Shareef and Du’a.) 16. While uttering ‘اللّٰہُ اَکْبَر’ , return to the standing position. 17. Perform the third Rak’at as you did in the second Rak’at. (Recite Surah Fatihah and a small Surah). Perform Ruku and Sujood. 18. In the third Rak’at, sit as you did in the second Rak’at. 19. Recite the complete Attahiyyat, Durood Pak and Du’a. 20. Now turn your head to the right and recite ‘اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْکُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰ ہ’ 21. Then turn your head to the left and recite ‘اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْکُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰ ہ’ Method of offering three Rak’at Witr Salah of Isha 1-15. Follow the procedure for praying two Rak’at Salah from point 1 to 15. However, in three Rak’at Salah, do not perform Salam as you did in the two Rak’at Salah but recite until Attahiyyat. (Recite the complete Attahiyyat (do not recite Durood Shareef and Du’a.) 16. While uttering ‘اللّٰہُ اَکْبَر’ return to the standing position. 17. In the third Rak’at, recite Surah Fatihah and other Surah as you did in the second Rak’at. 18. Raise the hands and while uttering ‘اللّٰہُ اَکْبَر’ place them below the navel. 19. Recite Du’a-e-Qunoot. If you have not memorized Du’a-e-Qunoot, utter ‘اَللّٰھُمَّ اغْفِرْلِیْ’ (Memorize this phrase at least.) 20. While uttering ‘اللّٰہُ اَکْبَر’ go into Ruku and complete the Salah. Dear children! Congratulations, the Salahs performed in a day are now complete. Difference in Salah of boys and girls There is no difference in Wudu, Ghusl, Rak’ats of Salah and supplications invoked during the Salah between boys and girls. However, there are some different facts. 1. Little girls do not have to offer Salah behind the Imam. 2. Little girls have to cover every part of their body (like the ear, neck, hand, shin) except the face, palms and feet. 3. Some differences have been mentioned in the method of Salah. Little boys have to offer Salah behind the Imam 1. Little boys will not recite Surah Fatihah and other Surahs in any Rak’at of the Salah performed behind the Imam. Whether we can hear the Imam’s voice or not, we will stand quietly. Besides, they will utter all the Tasbihat (of Ruku, Sajdah, etc.), Attahiyyat and Durood Shareef and Du’a. 2. If we have not completed reciting the Attahiyyat and the Imam has already performed Salam, we will complete the Attahiyyat and perform the Salam. Answer the question: Question: Explain the complete method of three and four Rak’at of Salah.

Lesson 07: It is necessary to perform the following three acts in Ghusl (ritual bath):

1. Rinsing the mouth Rinse the mouth thoroughly with water, from the lips to the teeth to the back of the throat. 2. Sniffing water inside the nose Wash the nose up to the end of the soft bone i.e. up to the start of the hard bone. This can only be done by sniffing water upwards, but do not sniff to the extent that it reaches the brain. 3. Ablution of the entire Body Pour water on each part of the body, from the hairs of the head up to the soles of the feet. Dear children! The three steps mentioned above are Fard in Ghusl. Besides the Fard, there are some Sunnahs in Ghusl as well. You will learn about them by reading the book of Salah. If you have performed Ghusl, you have also performed Wudu. However, there are some acts that invalidate Wudu. (Some details regarding this are mentioned ahead.) Answer the questions: Question 1: What are the necessary steps in Ghusl? Question 2: If I have performed Ghusl, have I also performed Wudu?

Lesson 08:Making sure that clothes are clean before praying

Important fact: It is necessary that the clothes are pure in Salah. If the clothes are stained with impurity, whether it is thick or light, such as stool, urine, etc., in both cases put it under the tap and pour water over it till the colour and smell of the impurity fade away and there is a strong probability that the water has carried the impurity away. In this way, it becomes pure. For more details, please read the book of Salah. Important fact regarding Salah: When children reach the age of 7 years, they should offer Salah five times a day in the Masjid behind the Imam. (However, learn the manners of the Masjid and Salah first. When we enter the Masjid, we should not run, laugh, shout or even talk. We should not get into any mischief. Similarly, they should perform the Salah of Friday behind the Imam but before that they should quietly listen to the sermon (that he delivers in Arabic while standing). Besides, there are two Eid Salahs in a year and Taraweeh Salah all through Ramadan. You can read the book of Salah for more details. Note: Girls do not have to offer the Friday Salah nor the Eid Salah. However, they will offer the Taraweeh Salah at home. Answer the question: Question: Explain the complete method of purifying the clothes.

Lesson 09: Ramadan, fasting and Taraweeh

Our Last Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said: ‘If people knew what Ramadan is, my Ummah would wish to have Ramadan for the entire year.’ (Ibn-e-Majah, vol. 3, p. 190, Hadith 1886, selected) Our Last Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said: ‘Indeed, there is a gate in Paradise called Rayyan. Only those who observe fasting can enter Paradise (through that gate) on the Day of Judgement, nobody else will enter (Paradise through that gate). When they have entered, the gate will be closed and no one else will go through that gate.’ (Bukhari, vol. 1, p. 625, Hadith 1896) When children (boys and girls) have turned seven years old and they can observe the fast, since they do not get sick or weak because of it, then their parents or guardian should make sure they fast during Ramadan. (Fatawa Razawiyyah, vol. 10, p. 345) Dear children! 1. If you have turned seven years old, try to observe fasting, in addition to offering Salah. 2. In order to observe fasting, you should have the intention that you will not eat and drink deliberately from Fajr until Maghrib . 3. In Ramadan, there are 20 Rak’ats of Taraweeh with the Salah of Isha. The children who have reached the age of 7 years should perform [Taraweeh] in the Masjid. (However, learn the manners of the Masjid and Salah first. When we enter the Masjid, we should not run, laugh, shout or even talk. We should not get into any mischief in Salah.) Little girls can perform [Taraweeh] at their homes. 4. Dear children! Some children who perform the Taraweeh Salah keep distance and talk behind the Imam. When the Imam goes into Ruku’, they run and join the Salah. This is incorrect. Remember that some children get into mischief in the Masjid and even in Salah. They should not do this while offering Salah. 5. Reciting the Holy Quran and Durood Shareef in abundance are also very important acts in Ramadan. Learn how to recite the Holy Quran correctly. Recite the Holy Quran and Durood Shareef as much as possible. صَلَّی اللہُ عَلٰی مُحَمَّد Answer the questions: Question 1: How do we observe fasting? Question 2: Explain the complete method of offering Taraweeh?
