1) The love of Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه for Salah:
A pious man once said: ‘I lived with Ghaus-e-Pak Shaykh Abdul Qaadir رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه for forty years of my life. I observed that he would pray the Fajr Salah with the same ablution which he had performed for Isha Salah. As soon as the ablution that he had performed would become invalid, he would rapidly redo it and then pray two Rakats of Nafl Salah. As soon as he had performed the Isha Salah, he would go back to his room and remain alone in order to worship Allah Almighty as much as he could. He would come out of his room as soon as the Fajr Azan would be called out. (Qalaaid-ul-Jawahir, p. 76) Dear little girls and boys! The parable mentioned above has taught us how much enthusiasm Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه had for performing Salah. Just as he did, we too should offer Salah five times a day regularly. In addition to the Fard Salah, we should make an effort to become habitual of offering Nafl Salah as well.
2) Pious son of a pious mother:
Huzoor Ghaus-e-Pak Sayyiduna Abdul Qaadir رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه once said: When I was young and during the days of Hajj, I had to leave for the Jungle. I was following a bull playfully as other children do. The bull looked towards me and said: ‘Oh Abdul Qaadir! You are not born for these things.’ I was worried and quickly went back home and asked my mother to please let me go to another country, known as Baghdad, to gain Islamic knowledge and observe the righteous people. When my mom asked me the reason behind this, I narrated the entire incident I had been through in the jungle, and she burst into tears. She went to get part of my father’s wealth for me. She came back and gave me eighty gold coins out of my father’s wealth which were a part of my inheritance. I took forty gold coins for myself and left the remaining forty for my brother. My mother hid the money in my shirt and granted me permission to travel to Baghdad. She رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْهَا told me to always be truthful wherever I go and just before I left she advised me, ‘Oh Son, I am allowing you to live away from myself in order to please Allah Almighty and as from now I would meet you on the Day of judgement. (Bahjat-tul-Israar, Zikr Tareeqah, p. 167) Dear little girls and boys! We have learnt from this parable that our Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه had a keen interest to gain Islamic knowledge. For the sake of learning Islamic knowledge, he decided to seek permission from his mother and she رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْهَا gave him permission to not only seek Knowledge, but also impart Islamic knowledge throughout his entire life. This story also clearly tells us that we should learn Islamic knowledge throughout our life.
3) Fulfilling a promise
Huzoor Ghaus-e-Pak Sayyid Abdul Qaadir رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه once stated: ‘When I was travelling to gain knowledge from my village, Jilan to another country, Baghdad Sharif, I was accompanied by other travellers who were also going to the same country. When we were a little distance away from our village, nearly sixty robbers surrounded us and snatched all our money and belongings. However, none of them asked me to surrender anything. One of the robbers came towards me and asked: ‘Oh boy! Do you have anything?’ I replied: ‘Yes!’ He further inquired: ‘What do you have?’ I told him that I had forty gold coins. The robber looked at me and asked: Where are these coins? I told him that the forty gold coins are in my clothes. The robber considered my answer a joke and went away., Another robber came to me and asked the same question, ‘Is there anything that you have?’ I told him that I have forty gold coins. Even after listening to me, he walked away. When all the robbers gathered in front of their leader and told him about my response regarding my possessions. The leader called me and inquired by saying ‘What do you really have?’ And I repeated the same response that I have forty gold coins. The leader instructed his robbers to check what I have in my shirt and when they did, they ended up finding the money. He was surprised and, looking at me he asked, ‘Why did you tell the truth?’ (For if you had told a lie to me, you could have saved all your money). I told him that my mother made me promise her that regardless of what situation I am in, I am not supposed to tell a lie. Just listening to what I said, the leader started crying and said, ‘This child made a promise to his mother and didn’t have the audacity to break it, yet I keep making promises to Allah Almighty and I keep breaking them as well. At the same moment, the leader and robbers repented and decided that they would never rob anyone, ever again! Moreover, they returned the money and belongings etc. to their owners. (Bahjat-ul-Israr, Zikr Tareeqah, p. 168) Dear little girls and boys! The aforementioned parable taught us a lesson that we should always speak the truth. In permissible things, we should obey our parents and we should speak the truth everywhere, no matter where we are. We also learnt that our Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه travelled to another country during his childhood to learn Islamic knowledge; hence, we too should learn the method of performing Salah and other things related to religion while we are still young.
4) A man with big eyes
Huzoor Ghaus-e-Pak Sayyiduna Abdul Qaadir رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه said that, ‘I was offering Salah in a Masjid at night, and a snake came and opened his mouth exactly where I had to prostrate. I pushed him away and continued to prostrate, yet he wrapped himself around my neck. Once I was done performing Salah, I looked around the Masjid and realized that there was no snake. The following day, when I went to the Masjid again, I noticed a man with wide eyes and thought of it as a jinn. The jinn spoke to me and said: ‘I have annoyed a lot of righteous Muslims by transforming myself into a snake but I have never seen someone as pious as you.’ Furthermore, the jinn repented on the hand of Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه. (Bahjat-ul-Israr, p. 169) Dear little girls and boys! The afore-mentioned parable taught us a lesson that our Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه would offer Salah in such a perfect way that even if a snake would come during his Salah, he wouldn’t move from his position and would continue his Salah. We should offer all the Salahs whether it is winter, or summer, and we should also perform the Fajr Salah. This story also taught us how much the jinn loved our Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه.
5)Those people came on the right path
At some point in time, a group of people who didn’t think positively about Awliyahs (who are the saints and righteous people of Allah Almighty), came to our Ghaus-e-Pak Sayyid Abdul Qaadir رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه with two baskets in their hands and asked him what is present in both of them. He got up from his chair and kept his blessed hand on one of the baskets and said, ‘This basket has a sick child in it.’ And he asked his son, Sayyiduna Abdul Razzaq رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه to open the basket up, and when the basket was unwrapped, it really had a sick child sitting in it. He held him tightly and said: ‘Stand up by the will of Allah Almighty.’ And so he stood up by the will of Allah Almighty. Then, he kept his hand on the second basket and said: ‘This basket has a child in it who is not sick,’ He requested them to open up the second basket as well. Just as the basket was unwrapped, a kid came out of it and started running. He held him and said: ‘Sit down.’ The child sat. Looking at this, the group of people repented from their evil and disrespectful thoughts. (Qalaaid-ul-Jawahir, p. 30, summarised) Dear little girls and boys! This parable taught us that the chosen people of Allah Almighty have a highly magnificent status. Allah Almighty has provided them with gifted strength/power which enables them to see what is really in the basket just from the outside, as well. And whenever they wish, they can cure those who are sick. We also learnt that the people who have negative and evil thoughts about the Awliya of Allah Almighty are evil too.
6)He made the chicken alive
A woman came to Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه and left her son with him saying that my son really loves you, so I want you to keep him with you. One day, the boy’s mother arrived and saw her son weak because of starvation and staying awake during the night, and he was eating gravy without bread. Seeing this, she went to Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه and she saw that he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه had a bowl full of the bones of a chicken kept in front of him as if he had eaten all of it already. She requested, ‘You are eating chicken as your meal and all my son gets to eat is gravy without bread.’ Just as Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه listened to her a he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه kept his hands on the bones of the chicken and said: ‘Get up by the will of Allah Almighty.’ And the chicken got up (فورا ًزندہ) and started making a noise. Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه said: ‘When your son attains a status like mine, he would eat whatever he wishes. (Bahjat-ul-Israr, p. 128) Dear little boys and good girls! This parable mentioned above has delivered a beautiful message to us that our Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه was blessed with such power by Allah Almighty that he was able to make a chicken alive. Keep in mind that Allah Almighty gives His chosen people such powers that enables them to make the dead alive. Just as it is mentioned in the Holy Quran about Sayyiduna Isa عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام that: ‘by Allah’s command; And I heal him who was born blind, and the leper; and I give life to the dead with the permission of Allah. (Surah Aal-e-Imran, Chapter 3, Verse 49) The translation of this verse clearly tells us that Allah Almighty has given a lot of power to Ambiya Karaam (عَـلَـيْهِمُ السَّلَام) as well as Awliya Karaam (رَحِمَهُمُ الـلّٰـه).
7) Helping the poor
During the days of Hajj, Ghaus-e-Pak Sayyiduna Abdul Qaadir رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه stopped at a certain place and said: ‘Guide me and let me know about the homes of those who are really needy here and when he actually found the home of the extremely poor, Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه asked for permission from the family to see if they allowed him to stay at their home, and once he was granted permission, he stayed with all of them for some time. All the important and glorified personalities of the area tried a lot to make Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه, come to their homes.’ However, he did not leave the needy family. The local people who lived in the same area sent him gifts which included several cows, goats, edible things, gold, silver, and much more useful stuff. Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه ended up giving all the gifts which he received to the poor family with whom he had stayed, and left their home before the time of Fajr Salah started. Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه stayed there for just one night. By the blessings of Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه the poor family became rich. (Bahjat-ul-Israr, p. 198, summarised) Dear little boys and good girls! The parable taught us a very beautiful lesson that our Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه would love the poor. We should also follow his footsteps by loving the poor/ needy people around us.
8) Love for the students gaining Islamic Knowledge
A pious man said that we went to Ghaus-e-Pak Sayyiduna Abdul Qaadir رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه to gain Islamic knowledge directly from him, he did not only give us a place to reside peacefully but also took extremely good care of us. Sometimes, he would send a lamp to us through his son, Hadrat Yahya رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه and on other days he would prepare a meal for us at his house and send it to us. (Siyar A’laam-un-Nubala, vol. 15, p. 183) Dear little boys and good girls! This parable has taught us that we should truly love the students of Islamic Knowledge very much. To love the students of Islamic knowledge means to love the religion Islam itself. Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said: ‘Seeking knowledge is compulsory for every Muslim.’ (Sunan Ibn-e-Majah, p. 2491, Hadith 224)
9) Hearts are in my hand:
Sayyiduna Umar رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه said that on Friday I was walking towards the Masjid with Ghaus-e-Pak Sayyiduna Abdul Qaadir رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه I felt that, whenever I accompanied Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه whilst he goes to the Masjid on Friday, there is a huge crowd of people who are willing to greet him and shake hands with him due to which it is difficult to walk to the Masjid. But nobody is even looking at him today? Just as this thought came in my heart, Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه looked at me and smiled. Then and there people started coming quickly to shake hands with him, and there was a crowd in the middle of where Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه and I stood, just in no time and I thought that it was far better that I was standing alone with Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه, and as soon as this thought came into my heart, Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه said to me: ‘Oh Umar! You desire this crowd, you have no idea of the fact that I have the hearts of people in my hand, in my control, if I will, I can attract them towards myself and If I will, I can deviate them away from myself.’ (Bahjat-ul-Israr, p. 196) Dear little boys and good girls! This parable teaches us a beautiful lesson that it is a good thing to stay close to the people who are beloved to Allah Almighty. Moreover, whoever the beloved people of Allah Almighty like, they can attract those creatures towards themselves.
10) Don’t deny another time
Once, Hadrat Ghaus-e-Pak Sayyiduna Abdul Qaadir Jeelani رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه saw a person in a condition of sorrow and asked him about it. He answered, ‘I wanted to go on the other side of the river, but the sailor didn’t let me sit in the boat کشتی)) without paying the rent (کرائے) During that time, a person who loved Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه came to him and handed over thirty gold coins to him. Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه gave all thirty coins to that person and said, ‘Go! Give these thirty coins to the sailor and ask him to not stop any poor person from starting his journey in order to go across the river.’ (Akhbar-ul-Akhyar, p. 18) Dear little boys and good girls! This parable has taught us a very beautiful lesson that we should be friendly and behave well with the poor. We also learnt that if anything is told to the Awliya Karaams, by the help of Allah Almighty, they solve problems as well.
11) Huzoor Ghaus-e-Pak and the recitation of the Holy Quran
Huzoor Ghaus-e-Pak Sayyid Abdul Qaadir Jeelani رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه said: ‘For fifteen years of my life, I would stand on one leg and recite the Holy Quran after the Isha Salah, I did it in a way that there was a nail hammered in the wall in front of me, and it had one end of the rope attached to it and the other end attached to my feet so that I don’t fall asleep. In this way, I would complete the recitation of one Holy Quran before Fajr Salah. One night, I was going upstairs in order to go towards my room, I had a feeling that I should sleep for a little while and then recite the Holy Quran., The moment this feeling entered my heart, I stood up on one leg at the same place and I started reciting the Holy Quran. I ended the recitation of one whole Holy Quran while standing at the staircase. (Bahjat-ul-Israr, p. 118) Dear little boys and good girls! This parable has taught us a very important lesson that our Ghaus-e-Pak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه loved reciting the Holy Quran very much. There are several benefits of reciting the Holy Quran, it gives a feeling of peace to our heart, and by the mercy of Allah Almighty, we get ten rewards if we recite a single letter of the Holy Quran. For example, الف. We should also recite the Holy Quran every day!
12)The prayer of Ghaus-e-Pak
There was a spacious land which had two date palms. However, since the last four years, the trees were not giving any fruit. Once, Huzoor Ghaus-e-Pak Shaykh Abdul Qaadir Jeelani رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه came to the land and performed Wudu under one of the date palms and moved onto performing two Rakats of Salah under the second date palm. Suddenly, out of nowhere the leaves started growing on both of them and after some days, fruits started growing on them as well. However, during that period, there were no dates on any other trees. I gave some dates to him, and he prayed after eating the dates so, animals as well as the fruits on the land increased manifold after his prayer. (Bahjat-ul-Israr, p. 91) Dear little boys and good girls! This parable taught us a beautiful lesson that there are a lot of blessings in the prayers of those who are pious and close to Allah Almighty, and pious people can solve the problems of others as well. We should always remember one thing; we should not always ask the righteous people to pray for the best in this world but also request them to pray for the best in the Hereafter too. Allah Almighty has taught us a beautiful dua which is mentioned in the Holy Quran. Translation: ‘O our Lord, give us good in the world and (also) good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of Hell.’ (Surah Baqarah, Chapter 2, Verse 201)
